Workshops

Workshops (by arrangement) can be tailored to the requirements of individual studios, although a 3 or 4-hour timeframe is recommended.

Yoga-as-therapy: 3 – 4 hours

These workshops incorporate foundational functional anatomy with asana practices, utilizing yoga as a preventative approach for health care and modifying poses for rehabilitative purposes. Using postural alignment principles, the workshops help participants create good physical alignment, release limitations, shift emotional states and experience greater freedom in mind and body. Synchronizing asana poses with the breath leads to an appreciation of the significant role the breath plays in physical alignment.

Strengthening the Lower Back

Many instances of lower back pain can be directly addressed through the implementation of clear and uncomplicated principles related to the deep back muscles, the gluteals and the psoas muscle.

Aligning and strengthening the Shoulders and Upper Back

Pain in the shoulder and upper back area frequently relates to our daily activities as well as our yoga practices. If we address the resultant misalignments that bring about pain and injury, our yoga practice and our daily activities can be stronger, lighter and eventually pain-free.

Exploring Core Strength

This workshop looks at the main core muscles and myofascial lines that support our posture, and how we can use them effectively in our asana practice to create enhanced core strength and improved postural alignment.

Prana and the Pelvis

This workshop addresses common symptoms of pelvic floor weakness: prolapses of the bladder and uterus in women, and prostate health for men, as well as lower back pain. We look at the pelvic floor and core stabilizing muscles and the asana practices that help to give integrity and strength to this area.

Philosophy and Asana: 3 hours

These workshops weave Tantric philosophy into asana practice.

The Five Acts of Shiva

An asana practice incorporating the 5 essential actions of Supreme Consciousness, often called the 5 acts of Shiva and depicted in the Nataraj Shiva, the dancing Shiva: manifestation, preservation, dissolution, concealment and revelation. Incorporates approximately one hour of philosophy and two hours of asana practice including discussion and partner work.

The Three Powers of Shakti

The powers of Iccha Shakti (Will), Jnana Shakti (Knowledge) and Kriya Shakti (Action) are explored in the context of attitude, alignment and action in our asana practice. Incorporates approximately one hour of philosophy and two hours of asana practice including discussion and partner work.

General Workshops

How to Practice ‘Chair Yoga’.

For those whose mobility is limited, a simple chair provides an effective means to increase mobility, lengthen and strengthen the spine, open the chest and balance hip functions. Benefits include an increased capacity for full diaphragmatic breathing and a sense of vitality so easily lost when we are immobile. (Host studios to provide chairs).
